A cheese toastie, also known as a grilled cheese sandwich, is a simple and delicious comfort food that is ideal for the colder months. It is made by sandwiching cheese between slices of bread and toasting or grilling the sandwich until the cheese melts and the bread becomes crispy and golden brown.
- 2 slices White Bread
- 2 tbsp Butter, Salted
- 110g Mature Cheddar Cheese or Gruyere, grated
- 30g Mozzarella, grated
- 1/8 - 1/4 tsp Chilli Powder
Butter bread on both sides with the butter.
Heat a frying pan over medium low heat Place both pieces of bread in the pan and lightly toast for 30 seconds.
Pile on the Cheddar and the Mozzarella . Sprinkle over Chilli Powder.
Place the other slice of bread on top.
Cook for 2-3 minutes until golden brown pressing down with a spatula occasionally.
Flip and cook for a further 2-3 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
You can customise your cheese toastie by adding ingredients like sliced tomatoes, diced chicken, or even a dash of hot sauce for extra flavour.
Serve as it is or with a hot Soup like Tomato or Mushroom Soup.
You can make this sandwich ahead, just cool to room temperature then cover and place in the fridge for 3 to 5 days
